Song of the City
Friday, 11 November 2011 at 19:30 (GMT)
Bradford, United Kingdom
Delve into the heart of urban spaces with Akademi's latest dance production, Song of the City.
Muse, Artist and Man fall in and out of tune with the city, taking a journey deep into its heart to discover hidden and surprising revelations. Featuring neo classical ballet, bharatanatyam and contemporary dance set to a haunting musical arrangement, Song of the City reveals the soul that pulses within the city.
Akademi has created a brand new production inspired by the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Tagore – poet, musician and social reformer. Song of the City combines dance, music, film and text to interpret Tagore’s canon against the backdrop of 21st century London.
Celebrating the completion of Kala Sangam's newly built 120-seater auditorium, the Blue Hall, Song of the City is the launch event for this spectacular new space at St Peter's House. Be the first to see the new auditorium on this very special evening.
Co-commissioned by Kala Sangam. Songs translated from the original Bengali by William Radice (meet William Radice in person at Kala Sangam on Friday 16th December - see website for more information).
Ash Mukherjee (choreographer & stylist, A Time Out London's Rising Talent and the first Indian National to have been nominated for a Critics' Circle National Dance Awards UK); Arun Ghosh, Deepan Sivaramen, Will Huntley, Bill Deverson, Kim Amundsen; Kamala Devam and Gian Luca Loddo.
